No one would have complained if the game had ended in a draw after Carrick Swans and Moyle Rovers served up a splendid contest in the South Minor A Hurling semi-final in Kilsheelan on Saturday.
Swans just edged it by holding onto a one-point lead in stoppage time (2-10 to 1-12) to set up a final appearance with Kilsheelan/Kilcash.
The Carrick team had fine performances from Dale O’Hanlon, Lee Wall, Dean Waters, Dale O’Mahony, Jack Cooke and Dean Walsh.
A very gallant Moyle Rovers were well served by Ross Mulcahy, Shane Lonergan, Stephen Quirke, Alec Owens, Luke Boland and Dara Ryan. Swans led at the break by 2-7 to 1-6.
The sides were level (2-7 to 1-10) when Stephen Quirke put Rovers ahead, as they scored 5 points without reply.
However Swan regained their composure and within 2 minutes Dean Walsh pointed a great free to equalise. With Rovers tiring Lee Wall went on a great run to finish with a point and Dale O’Hanlon followed suit with another Swans point. With 2 minutes of stoppage time remaining Rovers’ Alec Owens scored a point from a free and his team missed another free from a difficult position, as Swans hung on.
