Redmondstown continued their hot pursuit of their nemesis Kilsheelan United when they picked up a vital three points against Moyglass on Sunday last.
The game was cagey right throughout the opening period, with neither side wanting to give away much, but the deadlock was finally broken on the half hour mark when David Conroy swung in a corner that was spectacularly finished with an overhead kick by centre half Mark Olney, and flew into the net through the crowded penalty area.
Rocked by this wondergoal, Moyglass United almost conceded another goal minutes later when Daniel Conroy’s effort was saved well, but the visitors immediately turned defence into attack and sent one of their strikers clean through on goal only to see his effort come back off a crossbar.
This was as good as it got in the first half, and in the second period, the home sides best chance fell to Gino Lonergan after ten minutes, but his effort was saved.
Late in the game, Moyglass United had the misfortune of hitting the crossbar yet again, as the home goal led a charmed life, and when the final whistle blew, the home team were more than happy to have the three points in the bag against a desperately unlucky but very spirited Moyglass United outfit.
