The Tipperary team to play Waterford in the Munster Under 21 Hurling Championship quarter-final at 7.30 this evening, Wednesday at Semple Stadium will be captained from midfield by senior star, Noel McGrath.
It also features senior panellists Paddy Murphy, Brian O’Meara and John O’Neill in the forwards. The team includes seven of the team that started last year’s All-Ireland final against Galway, when Tipp won their ninth All-Ireland title.
The team is Paul Ryan (Upperchurch Drombane), Ciarán Hough (Lorrha and Dorrha), Kevin O’Gorman (Thurles Sarsfields), Stephen Maher (Thurles Sarsfields), Brian Stapleton (Templederry Kenyons), James Barry (Upperchurch/Drombane), Padraig Heffernan (Clonoulty/Rossmore) Noel McGrath (Loughmore/Castleiney, captain), Joe Gallagher (Kildangan), Sean Curran (Mullinahone), Paddy Murphy (Nenagh Éire Óg) Brian O’Meara (Kilruane MacDonaghs), John O’Dwyer (Killenaule), Adrian Ryan (Templederry Kenyons) and John O’Neill (Clonoulty/Rossmore).
Former senior player and manager Ken Hogan is once again in charge of the team and his selectors are William Maher (Ballingarry) and TJ Connolly (Cashel King Cormacs).
The Waterford team is also managed by a former senior, Fergal Hartley. His selectors are Tom Feeney, another former senior, and Derek McGrath.
The referee in Thurles this evening will be Diarmuid Kirwan of Cork, and if necessary extra time will be played.
The winners will face Cork in the Munster semi-final on July 20th, a match that will be played at either Semple Stadium or Walsh Park.
