Pride of place this week goes to the under 14 team, who on Saturday last won the County Peil Na nÓg in fine style and in doing so booked their place in the All Ireland Féile Peil na nÓg to be held in Derry on the last weekend of June.
n the semi-final the team struggled to get going and it took an excellent second half performance to see off Mid champions Moycarkey-Borris. Although they had 12 points to spare in the end, the game was a much tighter affair than the scoreline suggests.
Indeed early in the second half Commercials led by just a single point, but two goals in as many minutes broke the spirit of the Mid champions and from there onwards there was little doubt about the result. The goals came from Aidan Tobin and Ryan Lambe. The final score was 2-9 to 0-3.
In the final, the opposition was a big physical team from Arravale Rovers who had overcome Inane Rovers in the second semi-final. An outstanding performance by the Commercials team saw them run out easy winners on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2 points.
A goal and a point ahead after the 4th minute, the result was never in any real doubt. Fine performances throughout the field saw the team produce perhaps their finest display in the competition.
The full back line as a unit ensured a quiet 40 minutes for Patrick Murchan in the goal. James Brophy was impressive all day, as was Conal Kennedy at wing back who registered two points in the final.
Calvin Boland and captain Adam Peters were excellent at centre field. Ryan Lambe, Niall Hoctor and Óisín Napier were terrific in attack while Ian Fahey had a brilliant final. Two goals from Aidan Tobin and a penalty from Calvin Boland sealed a victory for the club.
Preparations can now commence for the trip to Derry in June and the club will look forward to once again representing Tipperary in this prestigious competition.
The club would appeal to all members to support any fundraisers that may be organised in the coming weeks to fund this trip.
