Clonmel boxer Dean Gardiner wins silver for Ireland at Elite event in Finland

Clonmel boxer Dean Gardiner lands a punch on his opponent while fighting for Ireland at the Tammer Elite multi-nations event in Finland last weekend.

Clonmel boxer Dean Gardiner secured a silver medal when he fought for Ireland at the Tammer Elite multi-nations event in Tampere, Finland at the weekend. 

Dean fought three great contests three days in-a-row. 

He lost in the final on a three judges to two, razor-tight split decision to European bronze medalist Petar Belberov from Bulgaria. 

Dean's performances improved with every contest, as he raised his game against each opponent. 

He beat France's Mourad Aliev 5-0 in the quarter-final and Scotland's Michael Barton 5-0 in the semi-final of the tournament in which 23 nations competed. 

29 year-old Dean is now a very experienced and seasoned Senior Elite international boxer. 

The two-times Irish Elite super heavyweight champion has to date represented Ireland in round robin tournaments, multi nations events, European games, European championships and world championships. 

Clonmel Boxing Club members, along with the Irish high performance unit in Dublin, think the best years are yet to come for the Clonmel man.
