Clonmel based powerlifter will represent Ireland in Sweden on Friday

Powerlifter Paul McLaren who will represent Ireland on Friday in Sweden

A Clonmel based powelifter  Paul McLaren will represent Ireland on Friday in Sweden in the first masters International Powerlifting Federation European championships.

He will compete in his  66 kilo category in Helsinborg on Friday at around 3pm .

He is married to Clonmel woman Sandra(Connolly)  who will be watching Paul  lift  via a link to the venue   from their home in Clonmel on Friday afternoon with their two sons ,seven year old Conor and nine year old Sean who will leave school early to see the event.

Paul, who put in a seventeen week preparation for the event, trains at the Elevate gym in Clonmel and he thanked brothers Luke and David Kelly for their support leading up to the championships.

A Tyrone man  Paul has already represented Ireland  in the world championships held in Minsk, Belarus.

On this occasion he is part of a five strong Irish masters team competing in the European championships.
