Carrick is the new Augusta - Golfers would you like to play in the Masters?

Golfers on this side of the Atlantic will get the opportunity to battle for the honour of wearing the Masters Green   on the same weekend as the Augusta Masters .

On Saturday April 7th And Sunday April 9th  the Carrick-on-Suir Masters will be hosted in the scenic surrounds of the Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club  with an 18 hole single stableford competition with attractive prizes including a €1,000 prize for a hole in one on the par 3 hole 16.

The winner will don the Carrick Masters Blazer, sponored by Bourke Drapers in the town, a perpetual trophy and an electric trolley. The main sponsor for the event is Wallace Contracting Ltd.

The event was launched at the recent Captains Drive In by mens captain  Roy Buchanan and Lady Captain Breda Comerford.

"We are hoping for a strong response  to this event, there are attractive prizes to be won and it should draw a big entry" said captain Roy Buchanan.

The captain said the club decided to go ahead with such a major event to raise funds for the club.

"We are no different to any other golf club, we are feeling the pinch and we needed to raise frunds to help the club and we have received very generous support from  sponsors" said Roy.

"The event is a major challenge for the club  and it will be the biggest event we will hold this year. It will attract a big entry  and we are looking forward to hosting it" he said.

There will be a €1,000 windfall for a hole in one  on hole 16.

"I've never had a hole in one on it . It’s probably the second hardest in terms  of difficulty on the course. It is possible, it will make the competition very interesting" said the captain.

GET INTO GOLF PROMOTION

The Captains Drive In was also used to launch  the "Get Into Golf " promotion with Carrick playing its role for the month of May with a programme  including a membershiip  for eight  weeks for €50 with coaching lessons  and events designed to get men into golf.

"We are hoping to get a good response to the May  promotion for men and also the club is delighted to be  involved in Suir Valley golf promotion with Clonmel and Cahir  clubs offering  a €60 vouncher offer to play the three courses  which is now up and running" said Roy Buchanan.
