Clogheen's Fr Sheehy's give Fethard a roasting in Clonmel

Fethard's Brian Delaney goes in bravely to dispossess Fr Sheehy's Sean Flynn in the South Intermediate Football Championship semi-final played at Clonmel on Sunday evening last.

On Sunday evening last in sweltering heat, Fr Sheehy’s well drilled fit team put the shackles on a Fethard side that looked promising in earlier rounds to win this Semi Final.

They had outstanding displays on the evening from Sean Flynn, Ben Hyland, Thomas Conway and Colin English .

Fr Sheehys  got out of the blocks at full speed, scoring 0-5 to 0-1 in the opening  10 minutes with Sean Flynn 0-2 frees, Ben Hyland, Brian Hyland and Colin English 0-1 from play with a lone reply from Fethard with a Chris Sheehan point from play.

Fethard were handed a life line with a well taken goal from Conor Harrington who was set up by Brian Healy. They  then lost their captain Alan O'Connor to injury.

Fr Sheehys  took off for the next fifteen minutes scoring 1-6 without reply, the goal coming from a penalty when Brian Hyland was pulled down and Sean Flynn took a very well placed penalty shot into the roof of the Fethard net.

Fethard were in all kinds of trouble at the back with two black cards during this period and points  from  Jamie McCormack and Tommy Anglim.

Fr Sheehy scores came from Sean Flynn 0-3 frees, Colin English 0-2 and Brian Hyland 0-1.

In the last five minutes of the opening half Fethard scored two points, one from a free by Brian Healy and the other from full forward PJ Morrissey with the last point of the half a Sean Flynn point from play to leave the score at the interval Father Sheehys 1-12 Fethard 1-3.

Clonmel Og defeat Commercials in other semi-final

After the break  nothing changed  the pattern of the game with Fr Sheehys dominating nearly all positions scoring another 0-4 from Brian Hyland, two magnificent long rang points from play and  one from Sean Flynn, a free, and the fourth from partner in the middle of the field Robert O'Brien.

Fethard scored two points, one from a Brian Healy free and the second from play by Brian Delahunty when he burst up the middle to finish.

This however was short lived  with Ben Hyland from the touch line scoring a point from play and Sean Flynn scoring a point from a free on the 45th minute.

In the final quarter Fethard got their act together, scoring 0-4  all from frees by Brian Healy without a reply but it really looked like Fr Sheehy's just took their leg off the pedal.

In the last five minutes  veteran of Fr Sheehys  Liam O'Connor decided to go for a run and scored two points from play with Sean Flynn scoring the other to leave the final score  1-21 to 1-9.
