Great day for Boherlahan Dualla GAA as club opens new astro turf facilities

It was another historic occasion for Boherlahan Dualla GAA  club when they officially opened their magnificent new astro turf facilities in front of a bumper attendance.

After tireless fundraising efforts over the past number of years with various events, grant aid and local community generosity through the Pledge a Grand initiative, along with much appreciated business donations, they now have a second pitch, 1km floodlit walkway, a 75m x 40 metre astro turf pitch and ball wall.

The work is not finished yet either with the walkway and car park to be completed in tarmac in the next phase which will cost in the region of €100,000.

It was a very proud occasion for the club, especially for Chairman John Wardick, and Chairman of the Development Committee John Purcell, both of whom spoke on the night.

And the contributions of County Board Chairman, John Devane, and County Bord na n-Og Chairman Martin Bourke, both Boherlahan Dualla club men, were also highlights of the evening which saw juvenile hurling and camogie blitzes underway from early in the evening.

The pitch was blessed by Fr. Joe Egan as the official opening commenced.

Present too was the Chairman of the Munster Council, Mr Jerry O'Sullivan and guest speaker Brendan Cummins.

The former All Star goalkeeper  spoke of the contribution of the community to the entire development saying “There is a little piece of everyone in this parish in that astro turf pitch.

“Everyone has invested in it, everyone has a bit of ownership of it”.

Congratulations to all involved in what was a memorable night for the club and well done to everyone involved in such a large scale project.
