Children can enjoy Midsummer Daydream at South Tipp Arts Centre

The South Tipperary Arts Centre in Nelson Street, Clonmel will host a Midsummer Daydream for children on this Saturday June 23

The ‘Midsummer Daydream’ event at the South Tipp Arts Centre in Nelson Street, Clonmel on this Saturday June 23rd is part of the national Cruinniú na nÓg festival of creativity for children.

Based on the stories from Shakespeare’s play, the centre will be transformed into fairy woods, where families will be welcomed by the mischievous elf Puck, who will help them get transformed into elves, fairies or woodland animals – though you’re welcome to come in costume, if you like.

Louise Garcia, author of children’s book ‘Shelliky-Booky Land’, has written a new story to share with children. Catherine McVicker of Chakra Productions will present a shadow puppet play, and then offer kids the opportunity to invent one themselves.

A fairy guide will then bring visitors upstairs, where Elke Wilson and Mags Rudnicka have a range of woodland-themed arts and crafts activities to suit all ages and tastes. Outside, there will be a bouncy castle, kindly sponsored by Clonmel Borough District.

There will be a special session for babies and toddlers in the morning from 10am, with a session for kids and teens with sensory issues and special needs (such as those on the Autism Disorder Spectrum) from 11am to 12.15.

Both of these can be booked by contacting the Arts Centre on 052-6127877 or info@southtippartscentre.ie

The afternoon will be open to families from 12.30, with a last visit starting at 4.45pm. At 5.30, there will be a procession to the Main Guard where Henry Fitzgerald will host a public outdoor dance workshop under the arches with lots of energetic fun for everyone.

Then it’s back to the Arts Centre for the Midsummer Ball – a kids disco from 7pm.

This event is funded by the Creative Ireland programme and Tipperary County Council.
