The Senior football had an excellent win over Adare in round 4 of the County Football Championship last Saturday in Bruff. The opposition began strongly however Galbally took the advantage during the first quarter only to be pegged back with the onset of the half time break. Into the second half the game was always in the balance trading scores throughout. As the full time approached Vinny O’Connell converted an excellent free to leave Galbally the victors. They now face St. Patricks and a win in this fixture would put them in the knock out stages. The game is scheduled for September 2. Garryspillane play their quarter final fixture in the hurling championship on Sunday, August 26, at 6.45 pm in Kilmallock.


The recent outing for Galbally Golf Society was at Tipperary Golf Club to contest the “Mike Sheehan Cup”. 34 members attended on the day and the winner on the day was Ciaran Ryan. The next outing will be the Captains Prize and will take place on September 15 in Ballykisteen Golf Club. All information can be obtained on the website


The next bingo game in Galbally Community Centre will take place on Wednesday, August 22, at 8.30 pm. Jackpot of €300 must go on the night.


The 33rd annual Galbally Garden Fete, which takes place on Sunday, August 26, promises a great day. The Garden Fete, now under the baton of a newly revamped Galbally Community Council, has become part and parcel of the annual social calendar in the region for well over three decades and this year’s event should prove to be no exception. Music is very much to the fore with the appearance of top country and Irish star Shawn Cuddy. The latest edition of Galbally Garden Fete will also introduce a number of new attractions including the eagerly awaited “Birds of Prey” display along with the mini zoo and reptile exhibition. There will be a “real life” fire fighting exhibition courtesy of Kilmallock Fire Brigade and a much anticipated farm and enthusiast Paul Henebry and friends. Galbally Garden Fete will also feature William’s Funfair, a dog show, the popular wheel of fortune, tea and confectionary stall, a number of entertaining side shows and a range of commercial stands. Proceeds from the fete will go towards further enhancement of the local village park including the planned provision of lighting on the popular walkway. Galbally Garden Fete will kick off at 2pm and run for well over three hours until 5.30pm. Admission is just €10 for adults with a special rate of €15 for families.
