Colaiste Dun Iascaigh’s senior girls football team defeated Loreto Fermoy in their second game in the Munster Senior A Ladies Football championship.
Kirsty Downey opened the scoring with a well taken point from play.
Further scores came quickly from Roisin Howard.
Roisin also narrowly missed a goal which would have increased the lead. Loreto responded swiftly with a point.
A free from Emma Buckley found Roisin Howard, who only had an eye for goal and found the back of the net.
Fermoy responded by attacking but couldn’t get past the challenges of Aoife Corcoran.
A bullet of a goal from Kayleigh Burke meant the team girls were in the strong lead at half time with a score of 2-5 to 4 points.
In the second half, there was some great disciplined defending from corner backs Aoife Nugent and Megan Heffernan.
Full back Emma Corcoran was solid throughout the game.
Laura Dillon, who was in flying form, scored a point from a nice pass from her midfield partner, Megan Burke.
Caoimhe Condon also popped over a lovely score.
Good link play from Aoife Corcoran to Rachel Moloney saw her get her name on the score board.
Emma Buckley and Maureen Murphy swept up a lot of ball in the second half and did very well at keeping the Fermoy girls out.
Despite the efforts of Lauren Fitzpatrick in goal, Fermoy got a goal in the dying moments. Fitzpatrick played very well throughout.
Corner forward Rebecca English supplied plenty of ball to the scorers throughout the game.
Substitutes Laura Keeley and Joye Arbuckle brought fresh legs to the team and kept the momentum up. The final score was 3-11 to 1-9.
Even though this was a good performance, the Colaiste team have a lot of work to do to reach the Munster A Final.
