Clonmel Town Schoolboys

Clonmel Town’s U-12 team progressed to the third round of the SFAI National Cup on Saturday with a hard fought 2-1 victory against De La Salle of Waterford.

The Waterford team started the brighter and Fabian Kerton in the Town goal had to be on his toes to thwart a couple of De La Salle efforts. After 20 minutes Clonmel Town took the lead when Aidan Hayes pounced upon a clearance from the De La Salle ‘keeper to fire a great shot into the roof of the net.

De La Salle responded with heavy pressure and equalised after 25 minutes. The second half was very tight with both defences on top. The game went into extra time and just when it appeared that a penalty shoot out would be required man of the match Cathal Berrigan won the day for the Clonmel boys with a great goal from a direct free kick.

A speedy recovery is wished to Fabian Kerton and Aidan Hayes who were injured during the game.

Clonmel Town hit Cashel for nine in the FAI U-16 Cup. The game was 26 seconds old when Jack Kennedy opened the scoring and from then on it was a one- sided contest. Jack Kennedy completed his hat-trick, and with man of the match Kyle Kennedy pulling the strings in midfield Town never looked in any trouble. This was a great team performance from every player involved.
