Cahir Park 3 Ballingarry Albion 0
Cahir Park began the new league season in bright sunshine at Ardfinnan Road on Sunday last with a new-look side accounting well for itself against a Ballingarry side who were slow out of the blocks in the first half.
In a first half-hour which was all Cahir Park. Cahirparkafc.com man of the match Paddy O’Donnell aware of the breaking ball to shimmy past the advancing keeper to put Cahir deservedly one up.
The first shot on target from the visitors came after 28 minutes although Aaron Wall in the home goal was not to be beaten. With the half coming to a close, the last shot in anger would be from a Pa Fitzgerald free, tipped over the bar by the opposing goalie.
Albion were much the quicker to start the second 45 and in their best period of the game, troubled Wall’s goal regularly, although O’Connor and Barry McCormack combined well to mop up most of the pressure.
Before Albion could settle into any pattern of play, the deserved third arrived, this time McCormack providing a clean pass for Pa Fitzgerald to finish strongly.
With both sides making changes, Ballingarry brought on the evergreen Paddy Ivors to shore up a tiring defence whilst Eamonn Wootton replaced the injured Barry McCormack for the home side.
With the result beyond doubt, it was now a very occasional foray into the other half from the Ballingarry boys as the Park applied an incessant pressure with some fine intricate passing from Wooton on the right and from the newly-introduced Eamonn Gleeson.
Albion, typical of the never-say-die attitude were to have the final attempt of the game bringing the best out of Wall with a rasping shot which he collected at the second attempt.
