Last Friday Helen Russell officially retired after almost 35 years at Burncourt NS. A large attendance of parents and past pupils said goodbye to Helen who first arrived in Burncourt in 1978. Principal Pat O’Callaghan who has worked with Helen since 1979, spoke with great appreciation of Helen’s consistent diligence. Pupils past and present remarked Helen was firm but fair and at all times concern for the students she taught. Fr Pat referred to Helen’s dedication to the children under her care. Michael Leonard of the Board of Management and Willie Walsh of the Parents’ Association both spoke with gratitude of the enormous difference that Helen Russell has made to the lives of the children of Burncourt. Aoibh Dowling represented the present pupils. A Community Celebration will take place on May 18 in Burncourt Community Hall.
