Newcastle Fianna Fail Cumann will hold a meeting in Tigh Na Daoine on Thursday, October 25, at 8pm.


Knockmealdown active have organised a Halloween children’s walk for Saturday, October 27. Walkers meet in the Community hall before the walk starts at 7.15pm and is 1km approx. On the short journey there will be story telling. There will be a prize for the most original fancy dress or you can guess the weight of the giant pumpkin. Wellies and suitable outdoor clothing is essential for the walk, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Halloween refreshments available. Entry is free but donations to the Knockmealdown Active would be appreciated.


U10 Footballers - last week our u10s travelled to Ardfinnan, playing three games in a blitz and coming second. On Friday night last the same team were against Fr Sheehy’s and won. On the same night and at the same venue u8’s also won their game. Girls Football Team u10s and u8s: The girls football teams were in Monroe on Saturday, October 20, playing great games of football winning three and losing one. Training - Training for the juveniles has now finished for the season and a big thank you to all for your help and support during the year.


Good Morning South Tipperary is a friendly, free and confidential phone service that supports the older and vulnerable people of South Tipperary and West Waterford. Trained volunteers make telephone calls to older and vulnerable people living in isolated rural areas or who are experiencing loneliness. This service is completely free and confidential. Our First Friends Newcastle Baby & Toddler Group are holding a raffle on Tuesday, November 6, to raise funds for our new group to purchase toys, storage, books etc. There are hampers and a voucher for Knocklofty Leisure Centre to be won. Hampers are on display in McCarra’s Shop, O’ Dwyer’s Shop and the Hair Den where lines can be bought for €1 per line.


Waterford and South Tipperary and Community Youth Services, WSTCYS, are in the process of setting up a new youth club for children aged 8-12 years in Newcastle. The AGM of Caisleán Nua Comhaltas Branch was held on Friday, October 19. All outgoing officers were re-elected.

Our first year in existence was a very successful year for the branch having All Ireland success in the Senior Set competition of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Our music classes are now well established with 44 students between the age of 5 and 15 learning the fiddle, guitar, accordion, tin whistle and flute. Adult Dancing Classes are now up and running every Monday Night in the Community Hall.
