This week the spotlight falls on 1983, as we look back on some of the people in the news in Clonmel 30 years ago.
Our main photo shows a happy group at the Bulmers staff party. Included are (from left) Jack Lonergan, Tommy Whelan, Gerry Lonergan, Davy Phelan, Paddy Moran and Noel O’Shea. Just about visible in the background are Josie O’Shea, George Pyke and John Byrne.
Elsewhere former Tipperary hurlers Mick Maher, Fr. Ray Reidy and Theo English are pictured with Niall Carroll. Maintaining the GAA theme that great Tipperary supporter, Brendan Dunne, who for many years ran a lounge/bar at Davis Road, presents sponsorship to St. Mary’s Hurling Club, which was accepted on the club’s behalf by Willie Peters and Billy Carroll.
Another local GAA club, Moyle Rovers is featured in another presentation photo, while a trio of GAA/sports enthusiasts - Denis Conway, Mick Tyrrell and Jerry Moynihan are also pictured. Also included is local historian and author Dr. Michael Ahern.
