Congratulations to the following players who stood out this week at training in Goatenbridge: Under 6’s Diarmuid Condon, Under 8’s Aisling Reidy, Charlie Landy and Under 10’s Philip Betts. Philip listened very well at training and tried to put what he learned into practice in the game. He caught one brilliant ball and put his hand up to try a few more! Good luck in the upcoming Blitz in St Mary’s.

We welcome into our Christian Community baby Seán Hally, son of John and Ann Hally, Ballyvera. Seán was baptised in Ballybacon Church on Saturday last, July 28.

Congratulations to local breeder Liam Walsh, Goatenbridge, when his locally bred “Aughnacurraveel” won the Tipperary 3-mile hurdle at Tipperary races on Sunday, July 22.

The Thomas Cummins trained 10/1 shot Augnacurraveel overturned the 11/10 favourite Back In Focus as he landed the Ballykisteen Hotel & Golf Resort Hurdle under Pierce Gallagher.

The 8 year old son of Tajrassi had been running on the level of late but showed plenty of ability over hurdles last season, winning two and finishing fourth in a Grade 1 contest at Navan in December.

Always travelling smoothly, he hit the front before the last. He then stayed on well on the run-in to score by two and a quarter lengths at the line. Thomas Cummins whose address is Augnacurraveel, Clashmore, Co Waterford, said afterwards: “He might go to Galway now or Tramore and Big Buck’s better watch out! You think I’m joking but I’m not.” The winning rider Pierce Gallagher was recording his first success since September 6th, 2010. Congratulations and well done to all connections!

The Goatenbridge Gymkhana which was due to be held on Sunday last, July 22, has been postponed until a later date.
