Grass and weeds have recently been cut making access easier for those who wish to visit graves. It should also be noted that those interested in history that there are several British servicemen buried in the cemetery as well as the knights who defended Ardfinnan Castle from General Ireton during the Cromwellian campaign.

As the summer holidays start we hope everyone in the community is happy with the work being done for the Tidy Towns in the village. As you can appreciate it’s very hard to have anything completed and looking well with the terrible summer weather we are having this year. Work commenced at the end of January and has been ongoing ever since. The amount of work that has been completed has been impressive however a lot more needs to be done. This takes time, money, effort and a lot of hours. If anyone can even spare 10 minutes please come and help. Also we are looking for ideas or if anyone feels something different would improve the village please do not hesitate to any one of the people involved with your ideas. We have an ongoing list of projects big and small and even have some proposals ready to start next year. On the work that has been completed it would not be possible without the generous help of the volunteers. It has also great to see people doing their bit in their own area by weeding, cutting hedges, painting etc. All of this counts when the judges are on tour. The talk of the village at the moment is the boat and the trough but also the fantastic display of flowers in the beds and baskets around the village. At the moment we are working on Barrack Street, New Line and the Clogheen Road and hope to have these areas finished next week. Without the generosity of the people who donated their time, the Council and FAS workers and all other materials such as flowers, trees, shrubs, trough, boat, seats etc. we would not have done what has been done so far. Also a big thank you to the helpers and supporters of our weekly Lotto. We live in a beautiful place so lets do all we can to enhance this natural beauty and be proud of our area by just doing out bit - big or small.
