A record number of entries were received for this year’s 50th annual Bridge Congress, which was held at the Clonmel Park Hotel.
Credit for such longevity and another highly successful congress is due to the ongoing support of bridge players throughout Ireland; the Clonmel Bridge Congress for hosting the event and the hard-working congress committees down the years.
At the opening ceremony on Friday evening Dolores O’Donnell, Congress President, welcomed Sheila Gallagher, president of the CBAI, who officially opened the Congress.
Also present was John O’Connor, president of the North Munster Region, CBAI, while Clonmel’s Mayor Darren Ryan also addressed the gathering.
Sheila Gallagher, CBAI president welcomed all the visiting players.
Play continued throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Prizes were presented on Saturday night by CBAI president Sheila Gallagher, which was followed by a meal to celebrate the 50th Bridge Congress.
At the conclusion of the event Dolores O’Donnell thanked the players; the sponsors for their generosity; the Clonmel and county bridge clubs; the tournament directors for their smooth organisation of the event; the Park Hotel for its excellent facilities, and the organising committee and volunteers for their contributions.
